TRADITIONAL ASIAN FOOD

Good News!!! Fortune cookies are finally available in Singapore.

Until recently I had to have all my cookies imported from Canada. My last batch was delivered to me by this idiot.I call him an idiot because he didn’t bother to take the fortune outof the cookie before trying to eat it… and thereafter spewed crumbsall over my floor to avoid swallowing the paper. But now, I no longer have to rely on my Canadian suppliers – andI can use tools other than my Magic 8 Ball to advise on my fortune. TheNTUC Fairprice at Marine Parade is stocking wonderful Aussie cookies.Just in time for CNY as well.
I’ll have to stock-up before moving to Shanghai, The only Chinese production line for fortune cookies closed a few years after it opened in 1993.
I’m also happy to report that another Asian traditional food hasalso arrived on Asian shores. Singapore-style instant ramen can bepurchased at most local Supermarkets (made in Thailand by Japan’sKoka). Unfortunately, it uses a basic opaque wheat-based ramen insteadof the proper glass rice noodles that are required for Singapore-style noodles.
Still, I was impressed – it’s still hard to find a lot oftraditional Asian food in Asia. I still get weird looks whenever I askfor Twinkie Sushi at Japanese restaurants.
